The State of the CISO: Leading in the Age of AI-Powered Threats and Defenses

Phil is a Strategic Security Advisor at Google, specializing in supporting Google Cloud, Cybersecurity and AI for companies and governments at all scales, globally. Prior to this Phil was the first Chief Information Security Officer of Google Cloud, from 2000 to 2025, where he built the risk, security, compliance, and privacy teams. Before joining Google, he was a Partner at Goldman Sachs where he held multiple roles over a long career, initially as their first Chief Information Security Officer, a role he held for 17 years.

In subsequent roles, Venables was Chief Operational Risk Officer, an operating partner in their private equity business and a Senior Advisor to the firm’s clients and executive leadership on cybersecurity, technology risk, digital business risk, and operational resilience. In addition to this, he was a Board Director of Goldman Sachs Bank. Before Goldman Sachs, Venables held multiple Chief Information Security Officer roles, and senior engineering roles across a range of finance, energy, and technology companies. He has been honored with many distinctions and awards most recently, in 2024, being inducted into the Chief Security Officer Hall of Fame.

Outside of Google, Venables serves on the boards of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, the NYU Stern Business School Volatility and Risk Institute, the Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board of NIST, the Security and Technology Advisory Board of MITRE, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. From 2021 to 2025 he served on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology at The White House where he drove multiple initiatives from cyber-resilience, the future of AI, through to improvements in scientific communications.

Enabling Resilient, Secure Critical Infrastructure – What is the Right Balance and How Do You Achieve It

Nasrin Rezai is senior vice president and Chief Information Security Officer for Verizon. She is responsible for setting information security strategy, policy, standards, architecture and processes. Rezai and her team work with and across Verizon’s business units to protect its customers and its leading networks.

Prior to joining Verizon, Nasrin held the position of Global Chief Information and Product Cyber Security Officer at GE. She was responsible for all aspects of cyber security strategy and operations for GE products and enterprise, including incident response, threat intelligence, security services, architecture, commercial OT security, and regulatory & compliance.

Her previous roles include Global CISO for GE Capital and head of Corporate Governance, Technology Risk and M&A security, for the industrial GE businesses. Prior to GE, she served as SVP, Chief Tech. Risk Officer in the Enterprise Risk Management Organization at State Street and as CTO of Security at Cisco Systems.

Throughout her career, Nasrin has promoted engineering and architecture in designing security solutions for large enterprises. She is passionate about helping others develop their potential, and mentors many young men and women. She holds a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in information systems. She also holds an Executive Certification from Harvard and Cambridge.

Nasrin lives with her family in New York City.

Resilient Operations in a Changing World: Innovation with Purpose

Arleen Paulino, senior vice president, Manufacturing, leads Amgen’s commercial manufacturing organization. Prior to this role, Paulino served as vice president, Site Operations at Amgen Singapore Manufacturing from 2016 to 2018, where she led the team to the successful licensure of Amgen’s first Next-Generation Biomanufacturing plant.

Paulino joined Amgen in 2002 and over the years has held various positions with increasing responsibility in Process Engineering and Process Development. She was also the head of Clinical Operations and Development Supply Chain, where she was responsible for the end-to-end supply chain for the manufacture and delivery of clinical product to support Amgen’s global clinical trials.

She began her career in Operations at Genentech and later joined Immunex, where she held a variety of roles overseeing development and scale-up operations, contract manufacturing and technology transfer, as well as plant manager for the cell culture facility.

Paulino holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Marquette University.

Sanat Chattopadhyay is responsible for the company’s (approx. $64 billion revenue) worldwide manufacturing and supply operations across a global network of sites for pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biologics and animal health products. Merck is known as MSD outside of the U.S. and Canada.

Sanat joined Merck in 2009 as Senior Vice President of Global Vaccines & Sterile Manufacturing Operations, spearheading the transformation of manufacturing and supply chain to grow and globalize its Vaccine business. Under Sanat’s leadership, Merck is currently executing a significant expansion of its biologics and vaccines manufacturing capacity with planned capital investments of more than $20 billion from 2020 through the end of 2024, to reach more patients around the globe.

Before joining Merck, he served as Senior Vice President, Technical Operations & Product Supply, for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Previously, he worked at Aventis and its predecessor companies as Senior Vice President, Industrial Operations, having served in many positions with increasing responsibilities for global supply chain, technology and manufacturing sites across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. Sanat started his career with Hoechst Pharmaceuticals in 1983 and worked in many senior leadership assignments.

Sanat is a graduate in Chemical Engineering and holds a post-graduate degree in Industrial Engineering from India.

Outside of Merck, Sanat is a member of the Board of Directors of Ashland Inc.

In this role, Mike is responsible for leading strategies & developing plans in conjunction with Operating Unit & SC Pillar partners to deliver volume, sales, and profit targets. Having started his career as the Flavors & Seasonings Buyer in 2002, Mike has held an assortment of Sourcing roles that extend across ingredients, packaging, dairy, and numerous stops in commodities risk management. During his career, Mike has also spent time in North America Manufacturing (New Albany, Indiana), within the External Supply Chain, and worked internationally in Switzerland for nearly three years at the inception of the Global Sourcing Center.

Mike holds an undergraduate degree in business from the University of St. Thomas and an MBA from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota. He and his wife Kelly live in Edina, MN with their two children: Taylor (7) and Hudson (4). In his free time, Mike enjoys outdoor sports, gaming, grilling for family & friends, and lots of time with his littles at the neighborhood park!

Prior to joining Kroger, he led product integrity and regulatory compliance functions as Vice President at Topco Associates – a private label procurement company in Elk Grove Village, IL.

Howard is the co-chair of the steering committee of global food safety initiative (GFSI), he has over 25 years of experience in the food industry with 18 of those in executive leadership roles, he started his career with the United Nations and he has had the opportunity to work at several food companies and in progressive food safety and quality functions including US Foods, Nestle, Kraft and Darigold, Howard is a food microbiologist by training and has advanced degrees in Integrated supply chain management from Michigan State University.
