Fireside Chat: The Intersection between Sourcing and Supply Chain

As the Vice President of Surety of Supply and Sourcing Innovation, Kyle Carlyle leads a team dedicated to strengthening the resilience of Walmart’s supply chain and improving access to key product categories and creating strong relationships with our suppliers. His team transforms the company’s global sourcing practices and has introduced innovative approaches and strategic partnerships, having conducted pilots with innovative companies in a variety of industries including unspun, Agritask, and many more.

With nine years of experience at Walmart, Kyle began his career in merchandising logistics and has held roles with increasing responsibilities such as supply chain optimization and network design and strategy. Prior to joining Walmart, Kyle also held various positions at JB Hunt Transport Services, Inc.

Kyle earned his Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Kansas State University. Outside of work, he is actively involved in the Cancer Challenge as a member of its board of directors. Kyle and his wife are proud parents to three young children.

In her current role she is responsible for leading 13 manufacturing plants, located across the world.  She has been in Medical Devices manufacturing for the past 16 years and has experience in different roles:  Quality, Product Design, Plastic Molding & Extrusion, and is passionate about Lean, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement. During her career, she has been able to transform and optimize manufacturing processes to better support customer needs and increase value brought to the company.  She enjoys working with interdisciplinary teams and finding new ways to achieve goals, while creating development opportunities for her team and others.

As President, Operations, Steffen Lang leads a team of 35,000 associates dedicated to manufacturing and supplying high-quality medicines to patients, and providing operational support to the entire Novartis enterprise. Novartis Operations incorporates the company’s manufacturing, quality, and supply organization, as well as information technology, data and digital, procurement, environmental sustainability, facility services, and other global services.

Prior to taking on this role, Steffen was Global Head of Novartis Technical Operations (NTO). Under his leadership, NTO underwent a transformation to become one of the leading manufacturing and supply organizations in the industry, providing agile, efficient support to the business, and reliably delivering life-changing medicines to patients around the world. During this time, the unit adapted its manufacturing capacity and capabilities to the changing needs of the Novartis strategy and product portfolio, maximizing the potential of its assets and expertise. As well as delivering technological innovation to enable the production of advanced therapeutic platforms, the unit collaborated with industry partners to support global demand for COVID-19 vaccines and therapies.
